Stress, Discomfort and Growth

I don't usually re-share the random Facebook posts that popped up in my news feed. This one isn't fancy or elaborate. It's short and sweet but I think it delivers a good message. (PS - if you're an email subscriber, you're going to have to click through to watch the video).

We all want to get better. At least I think most people do. We all want to be better versions of ourselves tomorrow than we were yesterday. It just takes a lot of discomfort to get there.

I learned it from running. The more pain and discomfort I put myself through, the faster I seemed to get.

I've learned it this past year. Megan and I have experienced quite a bit in 365 days. However, we're stronger for it. We've experienced things I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy but I couldn't imagine life without it. We had to get out of our comfort zones, even if it meant life forced us out of our comfort zones. It was a catalyst for a lot of growth.

Stressful situations aren't the end of the world. If approached the right way, it can help grow us personally and professionally. Trial by fire usually allows us to really find out what we're capable of. If we want to be at our best, we can't expect it to be easy. It's something I feel like I have to re-learn every single day.

What about you? Has growth come easy?
